Selling over 1.6 million copies, Asterix and the Missing Scroll was France's top book last year. According to the publishing trade journal Livres Hebdo, it was #1 in both total revenue and numbers of copies sold.
It beat titles such as Grey (from the Fifty Shades series) and Michel Houellebecq's Soumission (submission).
The biggest surprise came from the German writer Giulia Enders, who wrote a book called 'The Discreet Charm of the Intestine'. Despite being all about a little-loved part of the body (the English name is 'Gut') - the book sold almost half a million copies.
